A Seven Year Old Letter to my Husband

 

I was trying to find a more efficient way of keeping my papers for school organized so I logged into my google drive for the first time in years this morning. I scrolled through some of my old pieces and journal entries and came across one that I wrote on September 12, 2012 entitled "Dear Husband".

I read it out loud with tears rolling down my face as my husband held me and perfectly embodied the man I asked for my entire life.

Here's some excerpts.

"dear husband,
I don’t know who you are...but i’m pretty positive I love you. Probably a lot, you know, considering I married you and all. I really hope you exist. I pray for you every day. and dream about you. I wonder what you’re like. What you look like. What you laugh at. What your favorite food is. I hope bacon. I wonder if I’ll show this to you...or if i’d be embarrassed by my immense dorkiness that is presently being displayed in this piece. 
I think about you an awful lot. Especially during romantic movies. Tonight I watched October Baby. Oh my goodness. I hope we’re cute like that. I hope we had an adorable love story. But if we didn’t...that’s okay. I’m sure we’re still cute. 
I wonder if you truly like my humor. Or if you just pretend to, like the rest of the world does. If you do just pretend, don’t tell me...I’m sure it makes me feel special. I wonder if you ever thought about me...or if i’m anything like how you expected.
I can’t wait to meet you. I can’t wait to know your name. and my last name. one last thing. It sounds weird, but I can’t wait for you to hold my hand.

I am so blessed to have a husband who knows me better than I know myself and loves me more than I ever knew possible. We serve such a great, thoughtful, loving God who does listen to our every prayer.

Jordan Michael is the biggest blessing in my life and reading back to the simple love I wanted when I was 16 is such a great reminder of what I have in him and maybe also an encouragement for how far I've come as a writer ;)
