The Simplicity of Friendship
I came into work this morning and my friend gave me a baggy with a sweet note on it full of my favorite chocolate. A few hours later, another friend gave me the cutest jar of homemade pesto because she remembered just how much I said I love it. These two people, who I have come to love oh so quickly, loved on me without expecting a single thing in return. It’s an incredible thing to feel appreciated and loved so simply.
I was trying not to get emotional by the simple act of kindness of the chocolate, cause let's face it- we all know I'm as sappy as sappy can be, but by the time I got the pesto I had no emotional fight left in me. I broke. I walked back to my cube and had myself one of the greatest kinds of cries you can have, the thankful kind. Granted, I take sentimental cheese ball to a whole new level, even so, these gifts meant so much more to me than just some sweet treats. They served as a reminder.
The chocolate and the pesto reminded me that friends aren’t necessarily the friends I had in high school or college and they don’t have to be my age or like the same things. Friends are just those who care and make darn sure you know it. They are the those who encourage you in every dream you have, who invest in your life, and who love on you in every season. Something so small as a text or a call, or heck even some chocolate or homemade pesto can remind you of just how beautiful a thing friendship is.
Today, I’m so very thankful for the people I have in my life and the God who gives me the reminders I need just when I need them.
P.S. If you’re reading this, you know who you are ;) & thank you.
