#Dysautonomiaawareness
Today is a bad POTS day. I could tell when I woke up I would end up having to work from home. When I got home my favorite sweatshirt was neatly folded on our freshly made bed. POTS can be discouraging, but having a supportive husband who thinks of little ways to encourage me, makes the bad days a little less bad.
My struggles with my illness are not that easy to talk about and that’s the very reason I challenged myself to share one thing every day for the month of October that spreads awareness for dysautonomia and also gets me to feel more comfortable sharing a little bit more of my story, post by post.
Support systems are crucial when you have an illness of any kind and invisible/chronic illnesses are no different. Thankfully, I have the best husband and the most supportive family and friends that I’m forever grateful for. But I’ve also gained a support system in social media.
Its only 10 days in and I have received so many messages full of everything from encouragement to keep sharing to questions about dysautonomia (YES, THANK YOU. THAT’S THE POINT!). and another perk: I feel a heck of a lot more comfortable opening up about myself and even my illness.
Be there for people. Learn about what they’re going through. Ask questions. Show encouragement. Hear their stories and maybe even consider sharing yours. You’ll never know just how freeing it is until you’ve been warmly embraced instead of constantly alienated.
